My Story
Earlier on in my Iife I started out as a Self-Employed contract machinist. It was a good occupation which you could do from home, earning an income while looking after your child and having the freedom to plan how you worked your hours.
I have always had a passion to do my own label and after giving 110% to other labels, I finally decided my time had come. After specialising in stretch fabric and spending many years manufacturing activewear, swimwear etc. I began to produce Merino outer wear and ….WOW what a fabric!! When I started to wear 100% Merino garments, I knew that this was the fabric I wanted to use for my babywear range.
I have two grandchildren, a girl, Ella and a boy Jaxon who are the inspiration behind my label name “ellyjax”. I had spent a lot of time with them as babies and felt the colour of the undergarments was very limited and generally awkward to put on, mainly due to the lack of stretch. After spending many long hours developing baby patterns and obtaining merino yarn produced on farmland in Marlborough NZ, which also had a special connection as both of my grandchildren were born in Marlborough. I had the yarn dyed in my own choice of colours and achieved the consistency of the knitting to get the stetch I was looking for in my 1 x 1 Rib fabric. Now I'd like to share this great fabric with all the babies out there.
It has been a long and enjoyable journey to achieve my goal of producing high quality, practical, well fitted and comfortable garments for babies to wear.
Babies do vary a lot in size for the first year so please do check the size chart for further info, you can find our size guide here
